Once Les Carrières has been reserved for a private event, guests don’t just walk into a reception hall. They step into a visual and auditory experience that truly enhances the evening.
The monumental spaces, rough-hewn stone, and dynamic projections create an atmosphere unlike any other wedding venue in Provence. Each space has its own distinct character, while maintaining a strong sense of unity centered on art and minimalist architecture.

There was something very special about that wedding.
Throughout the day, the elegance of the celebration stood in stark contrast to the raw, monumental character of the quarries. The outfits, the decorative details, and the warmth of the interactions found an unexpected resonance in this mineral setting.

To simplify the logistics, I generally recommend arranging shuttle service between the ceremony venue, the accommodations, and the quarries.

The municipal parking lots located around Les Carrières are paid parking. The site is also less than a ten-minute walk from the village of Les Baux-de-Provence, depending on where you choose to park.

A fully immersive wedding reception
A reception at the Carrières des Lumières is nothing like a traditional wedding dinner.
Projections move across the walls and floors, colors shift, and music accompanies the different spaces. The setting is never completely static.
This constant transformation really sets the pace for the evening. The same space can take on a very different look just a few minutes later, simply because the images or color schemes have changed.
Floral arrangements, furniture, and tableware should therefore complement the venue rather than try to compete with it.
An elegant and relatively minimalist decor generally helps showcase the stone and the projections. Natural materials, structured floral arrangements, and subtle accent lighting can be enough to create a striking atmosphere.

Photographing a Wedding at an Immersive Venue
Photographing a reception at the Carrières des Lumières requires a different approach than the one used at an outdoor estate in Provence.
The lighting is intentionally dim to preserve the intensity of the projections. Colors can change in a matter of seconds, and some scenes alternate rapidly between very light tones and much darker atmospheres.
The challenge is to faithfully recreate the experience without distorting the essence of the place.
In particular, I am seeking to preserve:
- the colors and atmosphere of the screenings;
- the monumental scale of the quarries;

- the emotions and interactions among the guests;
- the energy of the evening.
I alternate between wide-angle shots, which capture the architecture and the projected works, and close-ups that focus on people’s expressions, gestures, and interactions.
Discretion remains essential. The equipment and techniques used must never interfere with the experience of the bride and groom and their loved ones.
Couple Photos in Les Baux-de-Provence
The quarries offer a particularly unique backdrop for some portraits of the bride and groom, but I also recommend taking advantage of the outdoor scenery of the Alpilles.
The village's light-colored stone, the surrounding hills, the olive trees, and the late-afternoon light all come together to create photographs that are very different from those taken during the reception.
This synergy greatly enriches the report.
The outdoor photographs capture the essence of Provence—its light and its landscapes. The portraits taken inside the quarries then add an artistic, contemporary, and almost surreal dimension.
A fifteen- to twenty-minute session before sunset is usually enough. The goal isn’t to take the bride and groom away from their guests for an hour, but to give them a brief moment alone together in one of the most beautiful lights of the day.
I always prefer simple, natural directions. The bride and groom don’t need to know how to pose—they just need to be able to connect, relax, and enjoy those few minutes together.

The best time of year depends primarily on the experience you want to create.
Spring is a great time to enjoy particularly vibrant scenery and generally milder temperatures. Late spring and early summer offer long days, perfect for hosting an outdoor ceremony and cocktail reception before heading to Les Carrières.
In the middle of summer, it’s best to schedule the ceremony for late afternoon to avoid the hottest temperatures and light that’s too direct.
September and early fall are also wonderful times to visit. The light becomes softer, temperatures often remain pleasant, and the atmosphere in the Alpilles takes on warmer tones.
